The Los Angeles Times has an interesting (if brief) article today about the overwhelming task faced by a small team of Germans who are working to re-assemble the files of the former East German secret police, the Stasi, that were hurriedly shredded in the chaos after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It's headlined, 'Puzzlers' reassemble shredded Stasi files, bit by bit -- latimes.com. According to this article there are a mere eight people working to re-assemble 45 million individual pages that have been shredded into 600 million scraps. "If we carry on at this pace, we'll still be here in 500 years' time," one of them is quoted as saying.
